There's Big Ben Again Kids

I actually scrapped two pages tonight. Not the greatest idea. After the second one, I tried to keep the motivation going and it ended up being a disaster. I couldn't expand the posts on an expandable post album. Then I lost one of the posts, resulting in a frustrating search of my apartment, including shining a flash light under the couch --NEVER shine a flashlight under the couch, it's DISGUSTING.  After almost throwing the album across the room I decided to switch it with another. After all the work of unscrewing the posts and screwing them back in, I turned around and found the missing post on the couch.  So then I had to switch everything back.  Now I'm exhausted and can't wait to go to bed.

Finishing this album by Christmas is not looking too promising. I'm going home on Friday, leaving me only two days to finish all of my Paris photos. Plus, I'm going out tomorrow night so really I have one night to finish. I'll just finish as much as I can. Mostly my fault..all my lazy days.

Anyway, I scrapped this page of Big Ben the other day. I kept it simple, using some of my London themed stickers.

Full Speed Ahead

One week before Christmas. I wanted so badly to finish my vacation album before Christmas but I'm still scrapping London!!  I'm going to try to power through but I don't want to compromise the album just to get it done by the holidays. I did do 3 pages in the past 2 days and I actually really like all of them. I'll just go through one of them now. We'll spread it out so I have something to write about during the holidays when I'm visiting the parentals.

The first one is a two page layout about the Tower of London. I had so many pictures from the Tower but I didn't want to spread it out over more than 2 pages. So I made a photo collage, and printed my favorite picture at 6x4.  I scrapbooked really organically (I don't really know if that's a saying) but I basically did this really freely. No planning, no thinking, no rearranging. It actually turned out to be my favorite two page layout I've done in a while. Fun fact, the background of this page comes from a book of halloween themed paper.  Although these photos were taken on Halloween Day, I didn't want it to be too themed.  I bought the paper for 70% off after Halloween. After a holiday is the best time to pick up scrapbook supplies.  A lot of the halloween paper is just orange, black, green and purple designs - not halloween themed at all. This one actually has skeletons on it but I thought it went well with the Tower of London, considering people were killed and tortured here..oh yea and it houses the crown jewels.

I should've taken this pic more head on but you can get the general idea of the page. I am getting a little bit better at taking the pictures of the pages, right?

London Day 3: Sightseeing!

Finally got back around to scrapbooking. I'm feeling surprisingly motivated tonight. I am also satisfied with the page I made...very rare indeed.

I always save everything everywhere I go - brochures, tickets, etc.  Sometimes I end up throwing them out a year or so later but I really want to use everything I saved in this vacation scrapbook.  Two of the things I saved from my trip were the London Tube pass and the Tube map. It went perfect in this layout. I used the most touristy picture I had - me in the big red telephone booth - and made that the focus of the entire layout. No other photos went with this one so to finish the page I used the tube pass and map.  It went perfectly since day 3 was the beginning of our site seeing.

I saw the ripped paper effect in a scrapbooking book and I've been wanting to try it. I embellished the side with ribbon and was able to sneak in some of my London themed embellishments.

London Day 2, After a Hiatus

Sorry I haven't written in a little bit...not really sure who I'm apolgozing too. I guess mostly myself..no one else is reading this...but I am disappointed in myself for not being more creative in the past week and half. In all honesty the number one reason I haven't been scrapbooking or doing much of anything is not because I was extremely tired or hungover or lazy (though those all were contributing factors).  No, it was because I was cold. So so cold. Last week the heat would not go on in my apartment. I don't pay for the heat so I try not to complain but I was sitting on my couch in fleece pajamas, a robe and a furry blanket and still shivering.  There were days when I didn't want to shower because the thought of taking off my clothes sent shivers down my spine.  On Friday night, however, I smelled the delicious smell of burning and knew my heat finally kicked in.  It's so nice in here now, so it's time to begin again.

That was a long intro, huh?  For once, I am actually satisfied with the page I made tonight.  I like the collage element of it and I used 3-D dots to give it a little more dimension.

Look at this, I'm also getting better at taking pictures of my work! Progress.

Scrapbook London Day 2 - Bath

Hello,

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I know I did. Today is the last day for leftovers, so I'm gonna get on that later.  Surprisingly, last night I came back from my parent's house and still had enough energy to make a scrapbook page.

Another double page layout for my trip. On the second day, after Stonehenge, we went to the Bath.  We toured the Roman baths and walked around the city.  The city was beautiful, I didn't believe people really lived there.

I want to get better at embellishments. Most of my layouts just involve patterned paper, which gets pretty boring.  This layout is no different. This is the first time I'm really busting out an album all at once. Usually it takes me a year to complete a scrapbook and I do like 1 page a month. Hopefully all this practice will take my layouts to the next level.

A close up of each page (it's kind of hard to see because the lighting in my apartment is so yellow. I try to fix the colors in photoshop but it doesn't work out well):

London Day 2: Stonehenge Scrapbooking

I'm kind of disappointed in the scrapbooking pages I did last night. I knew I wanted to make a double page layout, but I'm still getting used to the 12x12 size. I still am not printing out the pictures in the right size for the page.  The big picture on this page should've been printed bigger. The page to me feels like it's missing something. The colors don't look as good together as I originally thought.  Either way, I'm still going to keep it.  In a few weeks I might look back and be like...this page isn't that bad.

I was really excited to see Stonehenge, so I guess that's why I'm more disappointed in this page. I did save the brochure from the place and used the map on it as part of the layout.  I do like that aspect. I feel like as I make more of these vacation pages, I need to start using more embellishments and measuring my pictures better. Live and learn.

London Day 1: Scrapbooking with Ribbon

I slacked off on scrapbooking last week, mostly because I was out almost every night during the week.  Very unlike me.  I had to fight off my laziness to scrapbook yesterday. All I wanted to do was lie on the couch. I think it's the weather....or the lack of sleep. Probably the lack of sleep, although this morning I got a good 7 hours of sleep and I still did not want to get out of bed in the rain.  It's funny how a rainy day can totally bring you down.

Anyway, still scrapbooking the first day of my trip.  I used ribbon strips ast he background for the pictures. I finished two of my ribbon spools.  Actually kind of happy about that. I like using up my materials..it gives me an excuse to buy more. I definitely need to raid the $1 ribbon bin at Michael's next time I go.

Hey look, there's my finger at the bottom. Ha. Still trying to perfect the art of taking pictures of my scrapbook pages.

Simple Page, Bad Picture

I originally wanted to finish my London/Paris scrapbook by Thanksgiving, but I apparently have no sense of time...Thanksgiving is next week!  There's no way I'm finishing this by then, especially because I'm surprisingly busy this week. When did I get a social life?

Anyway, I'm only on day 1 of my weeklong trip.  I'm still not used to scrapping in 12x12, so I always forget I can print pictures large and still have room on the page. I printed the main pic of this page as a 5x7.  The three little ones were wallet size. I used a tag punch.  I like this page, but the picture I took of it is awful, so I don't even know if you'll be able to see it well.

The Trip Introduction

Sticking to my word and actually scrapping my vacation photos right away. First step, a nice intro page to my vacation scrapbook.  I wanted to capture both cities, so I used the maps they gave us as the background.  I actually felt a little guilty cutting up the maps.  They aren't nice maps, they are from bus tour companies but I don't know. It's the same feeling I get when I throw out books...I never throw out books but we had to do it recently after hurricane Irene ruined flooded my parents basement.  Even though the books were covered in mold it still felt weird to throw them out (although trash pickers soon came by and took a lot of them, mold doesn't scare them).

Anyway, we took a group shot outside of the Eiffel Tower and I bought the souvineer photo.  I scanned it in my computer and shrunk it down to 4x6. It's the only shot I have of the entire group. It's so hard to get group shots these days because as soon as you ask someone to take a picture of you, everyone else hands their cameras and says "me too!". Then I just feel bad for the person who agreed to take the picture.  Good thing I can steal everyone else's pictures on Facebook.

I'm so chatty tonight! Here is the finished product:

My Best Shots: Back from Vacation!

Back from vacation! Kind of sad, kind of happy. I was so excited to get back into my big comfy bed....not so happy to go back to work.  Thinking of work as a means to my next vacation is keeping me motivated though.  So many pictures! My facebook friends saw about 200 of them (there's actually 100 more than I didn't post).  It's hard to pic the best ones for this blog, but I'll just give a sampling that sums up most of my vacation:

Only 4 this time around (it takes so long for blogger - or is it my computer, I don't know to load pictures, and I don't have much patience).  The first is Stonehenge, the next Big Ben, the third the Eiffel Tower and the last are locks of love on a bridge in Paris.

I already went to Michael's to get an album for these pictures. I'm going to start scrapping them right away as opposed to my usual protocal of waiting until a year or two later...then forgetting what some of the pictures are.  Ah, organization..let's hope.

And I'm off...

I'm a terrible blogger. Really, I am. I apologize for that...but I must warn you I'm going to be an even worse blogger in the coming weeks. It's for good reason though! I leave for my vacation on Friday! London and Paris here I come.  I've been running around doing errands and things before vacation so I haven't had time for anything creative.  However, when I get back I plan on making a London and Paris scrapbook album and of course there will be tons of pictures (probably not all of them posted here).  Until then my one or two readers!

My Best Shots: Downtown Photo Tour

I took a photography tour and class downtown this weekend. It was great. I bought the tickets on groupon. I actually went on a photo tour groupon buying spree and have stacked up tours from three different companies. The first one I went to was really bad. It wasn't a tour at all just us sitting in Bryant Park talking about cameras. This one was actually a tour and some camera talking.  This might be the 100th time I'm saying this but I really need to start walking around more and taking pictures.  Anyway, here are my favorite shots from the tour.

I Wasn't Gonna but I Did

I was sooo tired when I came home tonight. Going back to work after a 3 day weekend does that to you. I already committed myself to lying on the couch until bed time but I pulled myself up and started scrapbooking instead. I really want to catch up on my pictures because I'm going to London and Paris in a few weeks.  I want to be able to scrapbook those pictures as soon as I get home instead of a year later, as is the usual.  So I made this really quick page, again just some cardstock and stickers.  I have an idea in mind for a much more complicated two page layout, but you will have to wait and see...

Ok, I don't know why this turned sideways, since it's not sideways on my computer....

At least the close up didn't turn itself.  Off to bed now friend(s).

Museum Layout

Hellooo...I feel like I haven't written in a while. I got caught up in life.  The last couple of weeks I felt like everytime I came home from work, I still had so much to do that I haven't had time to do anything I like (like scrapbooking or cooking).  I took the day off today though...and believe me it was 100% necessary. Instead of being a hungover fat ass on my couch, as I usually am on the weekend, I was nonstop today. Shopping, cleaning, food shopping, gyming.  It doesn't sound like a nice day off but it was awesome. I even ate McDonald's for the first time in a loooooonnnggg time. It was delicious and I won a free quarter pounder in their Monopoly game so it looks like the next time won't be too far off.

Anyway, enough catching up on my life because I'm sure it's boring you.  My tangents are probably the reason I only have a few readers.  I was also able to do some scrapbooking today.  I've been meaning to scrapbook pictures from when I went to the Museum of Natural History (almost a year ago now, oops). Since this was the day of doing things I've been meaning to do, I actually scrapbooked them. I used a simple layout - ony cardstock with button accents. For once, I do not feel at all disappointed in the results.

Dreaming of My Lack of Photography

Last night I had a dream that I went for a walk on the boardwalk (there is no boardwalk by my apartment so I'm assuming in my dream I was at my parents place).  While I was up there I saw all these sea turtles on the shore running into the ocean.  It was then I realized that I didn't have my camera on me and I was so upset I sprinted back to my parents house to go get my camera, aware that the sea turtles were probably all gone.  As I came in my house my mom yelled at me that my shorts were too small on me so I had to change. Then I spent the rest of the day trying on everything in my closet and realizing that nothing looked right (this is something I do very often).

I'm not much for analyzing dreams. Often I can figure out exactly where they came from, no matter how crazy they seem but this one was pretty interesting. I've been talking a lot lately about not taking enough photos..and now it seems my subconscious is also worried that I am not taking enough photos.  Perhaps I don't carry my camera around enough.  It seems like a waste of money to buy this expensive camera and only take pictures once a month, right? Although, I'm probably not going to be taking pictures in my office during the weekday, I can at least make an effort to get some photography time in on the weekend.  Now the sea turtles...i don't know where that came from...Although one time I was walking along the beach and saw a seal hanging out on the rocks. That time I was prepared with my camera.

New Layout..

DId you notice the new design I got going on here? Cool huh? I thought it looked more crafty.  I wish I knew how to do cool custom designs...It took me long enough to realize that I could change the background.   I've been under the weather but I bought a few scrapbooking magazines so I feel like next week there will be tons of scrapbooking updates. I promise! Don't stop reading my blog!

Slow Cooker Sunday: A Classic Chili

I'm going to apologize in advance for this terrible picture. I used my old camera because I almost forgot to take a picture (because I almost forgot I write a blog).

Maybe the picture isn't that bad. At least you can tell what it is.  I made the classic slow cooker dish - chili tonight. I figured that it was the first weekend of Fall, I would make some warm comfort food. I didn't realize that it was going to be 80 degrees with 80% humidity. I had to take my fan out of retirement. I know some people are happy that it's still hot and maybe it's cool that I don't have to wear tights yet, but this humidity is gross. I like sitting on my couch in my big robe and slippers.  Sigh.

I won't have any best shots tomorrow because I too basically no pictures this weekend.  I'm not doing well on my goal of taking more pictures. It's hard because you can't lug around the big camera everywhere. Sometimes you need the tiny drunk camera...and believe me those are not my best shots.   I will try to do some scrapbooking though.  I'm going to pick up a scrapbook magazine or two today for inspiration.

My Best Shots: Indoor Photography Attempt

Today I put on my slippers for the first time since April. It's very exciting. It's so icy cold in my apartment...like SO cold. I love it though. I put my fan away yesterday....yes, summer is over. Honestly, I'm not sad about this.

Fall is always the time where I do lots of things. People are around on the weekends, I don't feel so hot I can't move and the weather is beauitful.

Although I didn't take as many pictures as I probably should (considering I wrote an entry about how I need to take more pictures), I did get to practice my indoor photography skills just a bit at the Museum of the Moving Image. That's what these few pictures are from. Enjoy.

Slow Cooker Sunday: Chicken Cacciatore

This is not the best picture, but I can assure you this was delicious. I slow cooked some chicken cacciatore today. The recipe called for it to be cooked for 8 hours on low, but I got home at 8am and slept until noon..so instead I cooked it on high for 4 hours.  I think it tasted just as good.  The great thing about slow cooking is not only can I watch football without having to worry about missing an entire quarter while I cook dinner but also I have leftovers for quite a few days. I really think that my food bill has gone down because of it.  Also, it allows me to have a subject for my blog entries.....

Scrapbook Page: Photo Booth Pictures

I promised a friend I'd watch Survivor if she watched the Amazing Race this season, so I took that as the perfect time to do some scrapbooking. I always find it's easiest to scrap during reality shows because you don't have to concentrate as hard.  It was also nice to do something creative. The next two weeks are going to be stressful......new tv comes back. New TV requires a lot of planning: what to watch, what to tape, what to do if I can't tape because I'm already taping 2 things. I like to try and watch as many of the new shows as possible so I can choose what's going to be cancelled and what's going to stay. I have a 98% accuracy rating. This year is even better because I'm by myself and I don't have to share the DVR or TV with anyone..even though my mom and I have almost the same taste in television...plus she uses me as her human tv guide.

Anyway, got a little off topic. I just love TV, but you read this blog, you probably know that.  Anyway, I scrapbooked this page with pictures taken in a photobooth. There were 3 strips of photos and I put them in my scanner and made a scanned image so it was all on one sheet.  I always like black and white with a pop of color but have failed consistently to put it into a scrapbook page. This actually turned out to be a very good page. For once I'm not completely disappointed.

Apologies for cutting off the top of this. Still getting used to taking pictures instead of scanning.

My Best Shots

Time to showcase my best shots from the previous week. I probably didn't take as many shots as a budding photographer should've, especially since I was actually out and about doing things...so that's one take away from this (take more pictures).  I also want to learn how to take better indoor/low light pictures.  I've been slightly afraid to take the DSLR out of the automatic modes. Of course, that's silly. You buy a DSLR so that you don't have to use the automatic modes.  So this week I'm going to try to practice indoor photography. You will (hopefully) see some of those good shots next week.

The shots from this week are all taken on scavenger hunt through the meat-packing district, done for a friend's bachelorette party. There's only a few..as I said I didn't take as many pictures as I should've. Once again, if you are my facebook friend (as most of my readers are) you probably already saw these pictures.

Slow Cooker Football Sunday: Mac & Cheese

My first ever purchase for my apartment was a Cuisinart Slow Cooker. I was so excited about the idea of throwing some shit in a pot in the morning and coming home to a fresh homecooked dinner. Unfortunately, that dream never became a reality. My slow cooker sits unused everyday next to the blender (also unused except for one time I made half a batch of way too salty margheritas).  So finally I made a decision. It's football season now (YES YES YES) and so I will be glued to my couch every Sunday...what a great time to finally use this slow cooker!

I started today off with mac and cheese using four cheeses: chedder, gruyere, mozarella and parmesan. It was good, although the gruyere is a sharp taste that I'm not so sure I'm in to. Either way, it will be my dinner for the next two nights so I better like it. It was definitely better than how the Giants played today (womp womp).  I hope the Jets are not equally as disappointing. Stay tuned, I may actually do some scrapbooking this week, tomorrow I'll showcase my best shots and next week's adventure in slow cooking will involve chicken cacciatore.

From Sandals to Boots

Even though my dad told me repeatedly when I was home this past weekend that it was going to rain all week, I guess it didn't really register with me.  I wore my Tom's to work and since I'm an advocate of not bringing umbrellas, I ended up completely soaked. Like beyond soaked. I started peeling off my clothes before I even unlocked the door of my apartment.  It was disgusting but at the same time, it's kind of nice to be sitting on my couch in sweatpants.  I was getting kind of sick of shorts. Pretty soon it will be time to use my super comfy blanket.

I'm not depressed about it being Fall. It is my favorite season. Plus I work year round so it's not like I'm depressed about going back to school.  I'm taking some vacation in fall too. One of my goals is also to get better at photography (I want to get better at a lot of things, but I'm focusing on only a few).  The only way to do that is of course to take more pictures.  So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to try to take as many pictures as possible during the week, then I'll showcase my best shots at the end of the week.

Here are my best shots from the weekend...they all involve food..and if you are my friend on facebook (as I assume most of you reading this are) then you probably have already seen them:

Tonight I finally got back into the scrapbooking groove. I didn't plan a page or anything, I just sort of winged it.  I think it turned out well, even though it probably could've been better if I planned it.  I really want to get better at measuring pictures, planning layouts and mostly, uploading those images to here. Since I decided to make the life-changing switch to 12x12 paper, I can no longer use my 8.5x11 scanner so I've been getting more and more creative about taking pictures of these things.  Another thing I want to get better at..taking pictures. I need to make time for all these learnings! But I just want to watch Ghost Hunters!

Couch Wins Again

Do you ever lie on the couch and think to yourself..man, I really wish I could move off this couch. That's how I felt tonight. I really wanted to get some scrapbooking done (I've got an idea in the works) but tiredness overwhelmed me. Did I mention how comfy my couch is? It's a gift and a curse. Tuesday nights are especially bad because there is nothing good on tv. I spent the night watching repeats on this genius channel called WGN..that only shows repeats of incredibly awesome shows like The New Adventures of Old Christine and How I Met Your Mother. So that's my night. I'm sorry for my boring in between entries but it's hard to be creative after a long looooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg day of work. Meh. Until tomororw....

Cabin Fever

You probably think that being stuck inside during a hurricane is the perfect time to catch up on scrapbooking. You would be right, but that's not what I did with my forced quiet time. My parents, who live on the beach, were supposed to evacuate to my apartment but chose not to...so the entire night I worried that trees and water were going to come rushing into their house. I spent the night switching between movies and hurricane coverage and slept (quite comfortably actually) on my couch. Luckily this morning, even though my parents were without power, they were safe. The hurricane was thankfully not as bad as forecasted. The funny part is, if I wasn't worried about my parents and watching the news intensely, it's possible I wouldn't even know a hurricane was going on outside. My apartment is eerily quiet and the damage in my neighborhood was negligable. When I peeked outside this morning, a lot of stores/restuarants/bakeries were open and people were walking around like it was a regular Sunday.

Anyway, I'm staying inside just to stay safe. Plus the MTA is down so I don't really have anywhere I can go.  Here are some of my adventures from the day:

Because I feel like I've been on a super powered junkfood binge, I made a healthy tuna salad for lunch:

To get my mind off of coastal flooding, I made some friendship bracelets:

Then I caught up on my astronomical amount of magazine subscriptions:

I know you are jealous of my exciting life.  I need to practice my photography skills more and these are the only things I did all day (besides watching a ridiculous amount of family feud and playing The Sims on my computer - yes it's always the year 2000 in my apartment).

Until next time readers.

Back From Hiatus...sort of

I watch this show called "Baggage" on the game show network. It's a really silly dating game show where contestants have their biggest secrets hidden in suitcases and the guy or girl playing has to decide whether the secrets are deal breakers or not.  One girl's secret was "I write a blog that nobody reads" and I thought to myself hey..I write a blog that nobody reads. I obviously slacked on writing in the past month. Apologies faithful reader....

Unfortunately though I do not have much to write about tonight but I promise there will be more updates in the future...

Thai Chicken

I've been really into cooking this week.  Sometimes when I get depressed about not having a boyfriend, I focus on cooking.  I like to think that one day when I am married, my husband will brag to all his friends about what a good cook I am. It's probably completely anti-feminist but I don't care.

Tonight I made Thai chicken.  It was really good..although lately I've been a bottomless pit.  All I want to do is eat..and mostly crappy food. I'm trying to hold out but right now I want to run to the corner deli, get tortilla chips and make nachos.  I'm going to be the worst pregnant woman some day.

The Thai chicken was suprisingly easy.  First you mix asian-sesame dressing (this was surprisingly hard to find in my grocery store), peanut butter (I used the chunky kind, it's my fav),  and red pepper flakes in a bowl.  Brown chicken in a skillet and add the sauce mixture in, coating all of the chicken.  When the chicken is brown, remove it from the skillet and add in cut up red pepper and coleslaw mix.  Coat in the sauce and heat until soft, then add back in the chicken.  I let it sit on the stove for a few minutes more so it all mixes together.  I made a pound of chicken, and I ate almost the whole thing...and I still want to pizza.  What's wrong with me!

The Rice Ball Failure Dinner

I attempted to make fried rice balls tonight, but it was the worst cooking disaster.  Looking back, I should've made the rice in the morning and refridgerated it so that it was dryer and stickier.  I cooked the rice tonight and it was slimy and it did not want to be in a ball. Everytime I tried to roll it, it just slid right out of my hands...and it was slimey and it was gross.  After a little while of trying, I just threw the rice out and dug through the cabinets for a dinner replacement and came up with the "rice ball failure dinner."

Basically, I cooked some pasta (I had a half a box of elbow pasta in the cabinet), then drained it and ran cold water over it.  Then I found some tuna and leftover white beans from pasta I made last week, cut up some vegetables and threw it all together with olive oil and red wine vinager.  It was good, but I was so disappointed in the rice balls that I didn't really have a taste for it. I have so much of it though, so it'll last a few lunches.  Saving money again.

Paris Hilton Scrapbooks

I wasn't in the mood for scrapbooking or anything creative tonight.  I got a really shitty sleep last night and work drove me to drink tonight so my brain is a little foggy right now.

I was browsing on the internet for something to post on here instead, and I found this really funny thing:
Apparently Paris Hilton made a scrapbook kit in the year 2009 and I never knew about it! From various internet searches, it seems to only be available on amazon.com.

Here are some pictures I found from the internet of people using the kit:
(armenian-princess.blogspot.com)

The paper is actually kind of cute.  I also rather enjoy the idea of someone who seems as snobby and clueless as Paris Hilton taking time out of her day to do some scrapbooking.  I actually don't think she's as bad as she puts on.  She doesn't seem as annoying as Lindsay Lohan. I imagine that if Miss Lohan did scrapbook, it would be pictures of movies she thinks she was in like Black Swan and photoshopped pictures of her with A-list celebrities. She'd also snort lines of coke off of it. Maybe she'd even paste in copies of some of her court subpoena's.  Wow, sorry..tangent much.  Anyway, time to watch some TV.

Cooking Sunday: Tortilla Chips

I know what you are thinking..hasn't she shown us a picture of nachos before? Is she obsessed with nachos? The answer to that question is, yes I am. Very obsessed..but really I am showing this picture because not only did I make nachos, I also made the tortilla chips!  Lately, I've been (trying) to put myself on a strict budget since I recently booked a trip to London and Paris in October (yay).  I've been trying to not waste any food, not purchase lunches, not go to Michael's...you get the picture.  I bought tortillas last week because I wanted to make burittos, but the problem is that I only ever use 2 tortillas, and then end up throwing the rest out.  This time, I cut them up, brushed with oil and salt and baked them in the oven.  They were delicious..and probably healthier than tostitos.

I cleaned my entire apartment today, including organizing my scrapbook supplies.  I needed to throw out scraps of paper that I save and stickers/embellishments I know I'll never use (like stickers that say "school photo" on them).  This sounds like it's against my new philosophy of saving money by not wasting things but it's not. Getting rid of these items, allows me to only have items I know I'll use...that way I don't needlessly buy extra supplies.  I also do not have that much space in my apartment.

Finally, I also cut off a lot of my hair on Friday.  I desperately needed a haircut. Originally I was just going to get the dead ends cut off, and my angle/layers touched up but then I figured, I don't want to pay for another haircut for a while so..why not. My hair grows ridiculously fast anyway. I went to a salon across the street from me, a $25 haircut.  It's just below my shoulders now (it was halfway down my back).  I miss my long hair, but it's much more comfortable in this summer heat.
Anyway, that's what's been going on this week.  Hopefully I'll have the creative juices flowing this week.

Speed Scrapping

I'm on such a roll with scrapbooking. I might actually catch up to present day. I've never been caught up, hence the reason many of my scrapbooks end up unfinished. I hate the word hence. I don't know why I just used it.  I also hate the word "digress" as in "but I digress". Ugh. It makes me want to slap someone when I read it.

I took the picture of my page tonight with my old camera. It was a lot easier. It's strange holding the old camera after playing with the new one.  It seems so tiny. I remember when I bought it I thought it was so big, but it's not. It's a little baby. I still love it though...mostly because it's a lot easier to use than the fancy one. I need more practice with the fancy one..a LOT more.

Anyway, here is today's page.  In person it is more aqua, but the combination of the beige/yellow paper and the beige/yellow lighting in my apartment off set the aqua color. I tried to photoshop it back to normal but it's still not as nice as it is in person.

I'm trying this new thing where I actually name my supplies..here it goes: Patterned Paper - Kathy Griffith's Scrap pad, cardstock, glue dots, Jolee's Boutique flowers

Quick Page and Lifetime Movies

Tonight I scrapbooked while watching a Lifetime movie, Magic Beyond Words: The JK Rowling Story. I never read the Harry Potter books, although I do intend to one day. I saw 3 of the movies, and not in any kind of order. I just really enjoy a good rags to riches story...like the lifetime movie Homeless to Harvard, which was good until the end when you find out the girl dropped out of Harvard.  I think on an update story she went back a few years later and finished, but still you can't do a whole movie and then have the girl not even finish Harvard.  That movie has nothing to do with this one though.  I just really enjoyed the story and thought I'd share.

I did a simple scrapbook page tonight. I didn't want to stay up too late again. I was exhaused all day today.  I need to get better at taking pictures of my work though because right now they all turn out slightly crooked. I think I need to use my other camera. I'm still not so good with the super fancy one.  You can't see it from hte picture, but the circles actually pop out from the page becaues I used pop up dots. Another treasure found in my closet.

Night Filled with Scrapbooking

Buying those scrapbook magazines last week was a really good investment. I've been very inspired the last few days. I'm even up way past my bedtime (keep in my mind, my bedtime is about 10pm) to finish pages and update this blog.  I care about my reader(s).  Scrapbooking is also a good distraction from other things going on in my life. I don't want to talk about it here. This blog is not for sadness.

I've been trying to use extra scrap paper and materials I never use.  Tonight I discovered a pile of glue dots that I must've bought in one of my Michael's blackouts. I've never used glue dots before but since I ran out of my favorite glue (and we all know how I feel about my glue) I needed an alternative.  They are actually kind of cool.  I like the page I did tonight, although as usual I do think it could've used more. I'm getting better I feel though.  Scrapping on 12x12 is definitely helping.  Sorry about the crooked photos...

Obviously another two page layout.  I actually work in production at an internet based company and I still can't figure out why blogger won't let me put these pictures side by side.
